My 28mm Painted Portuguese Conquistador Artillery.

My 28mm Portuguese artillery and crews from the Wargames Foundry Elizabethan range for their time in Japan around the 1550-1600 period. Have kept the artillery piece separate because pieces were sold to the Japanese (before they started making their own) and I then add a samurai/ashigaru crew.

In all fairness I believe the Portuguese called themselves Discoverers rather than conquistadors.

  3. Nice little set there. It's pretty easy to forget how much power and influence the Portuguese once had.

If you want to make your face look beautiful, you can find a lot of cosmetics to hide the faults...
At least the Spaniards were crystal clear: we came here to conquer you!!! :-)
By the way, some good work there mate!

  23. Good stuff...I´ve strted to keep artillery pices seperate from the crews just lately, not many pices to move anyway and it allows more variety.

  29. Great stuff. Your historical minis frequently challenge my long held bias that only fantasy miniatures are visually interesting enough for me.

  35. Glad to read your PS3 is back online, even if it's the inferior gaming system. Ha.

In answer to your question the other day, yes, I did get a lot of good writing done. Two hours. Was a good amount of time. Wiggy nappy napped and I wrote. She makes a great writing buddy.

Still no word from the pound. They told me they were taking applications until the end of this week.

    Sigh ...

  38. both terms are used. but you're right, in deed this era in portuguese history is named 'Descobrimentos' (discoveries)(i know you know), so that's why 'discoverers' is used more often..
and it's umbelievable that a people that was so avant-garde in the begining is now so behind time and poor :/

  44. "The term " conquerors " gained historical force at the time perpetrated overseas discoveries by the peoples of the Iberian Peninsula . In the period of the conquest of the American continent , the conquerors were mostly commoners , nobles, members of the gentry , for combat veterans and adventurers . The conquered lands they were nicknamed the New World , because there was an estrangement between European cultures and those of natives. To tame the territory , many battles between Indians and Europeans, with a negative balance for the first group were fought .

The greed of the European and the bloody battles against the Indians were found in the book " A Brief Relation of the Destruction of the Indies " , Friar Bartolomé de Las Casas . The book recounted the actions taken by the Spaniards discovered lands and later was used by supporters of Leyenda Negra .

The scope of this publication caused in Spain to ban the term " conquest " to refer to colonization in the Americas. From there begins to be employed only the word "discovery " . Among the main days of the conquistadors in America , stand out from the Pedro Alvarez Cabral , Christopher Columbus , Cabeza de Vaca and Balboa ." - in http://www.infoescola.com/historia/conquistadores/ Your work is extremely nice and inspiring! Congratulations.
