Things that may make a Wargamer cry 3.

Apologies but I have been quite ill this week and got worse at the weekend, took some of the SWMBO's offered prescribed medication and spent a lot of time in bed sleeping but Sunday morning she offered to bring me out to lunch in Rochester (her treat) well to cut a long story short the lunch was nice but it cost me (for her) 2 sets of earrings, a photo frame, chocolates and a wooden duck called Edwin (we have 13 real ones in the garden).

So I decided to buy myself a pack of 20mm Plastic Soldier Company T-34 76/85's (future project) in the model shop in town and came home with the 15mm pack, this is not a wind up or a gimmick I genuinely came home with this bloody pack, I think that what little sense I had is gone and Edwin is laughing at me still or is it a plot by the SWMBO?

Unbelievable.

He's mocking me.

Will wander around your blogs today, apologies for the lack of visits.

  6. Beware the mocking wooden duck! I to have been there, I once ordered some cavalry and like a div I didn't notice the riders and horses were seperate so I got a pack of 5 riders with no horses.

  9. The illness, the meds and the emaciating shopping for the wife. Think it's just normal to have some blackouts after that.
Poor Francis. I'm really feeling with you.

  11. That duck does look like he has sort of superior air...

  12. Sorry to hear you were ill.

For the minis, maybe it was the medication?

That Edwin's awfully uppity with his mocking laughter. Who does he think he is? One of the geese at the end of A Bridge Too Far?

  13. Maybe we should get your duck with my frog.

    But that would be weird.

  17. Edwin is such a charmer :) And it's so picturesque that you have real ducks too!

  18. You've obviously been thinking so hard about what colour code NOT to buy that the colour in question has become fixed in your brain.

  19. Best wishes & I believe Edwin is on your side and wishing you the best too. Dean

  21. I think you should look at it another way, there is nothing wrong here.

Back in the Renaissance the artists in the West started to put Perspective into their paintings, which you do not see in their Medieval paintings, not in the Chinese or Japanese ones for a while afterwards.

Yet it does look right to our eyes, if only from being used to it. There's your answer.

Also, see if you can get Armourfast, they are from the UK, and usually have two tanks in a box, 1:72, cheaper price by half, and snap together with maybe 12 or so easy parts.

I am working on a couple early Shermans right now, but just think maybe I should paint first.

Otherwise it's way easier than the Fujimi PzKpfw 38 (t) that I got to fight them at double the price and a much harder build.

Two per pack means half price, and a few of those makes up all the lost money from this week. Just park this T-34/76 further to the rear of a photo, the 28mm to the front, and you are golden.

  22. I foresee an amateur remake of Godzilla in your future, starring Edwin the wooden duck.

  23. Duck and a frog, too much. I'm sorry you didn't feel well. I agree with Trey, that duck does have a superior air about him.

  24. Edwin is one cool duck! I hope you're over the worst now, Fran.

  25. Never too late to start a new scale :-)

  26. Get well soon! Edwin looks like something you toss above the trench to check if the coast is clear.

  30. ha. Edwin, he mocks all of us!

  31. This must be an evil plot from your real ducks to make you stay home with your medication ^^

    ReplyDelete
  32. the real question is what would happen if a duck like that were to appear on the battlefield in real life at 50x the size of your average tank.

  33. DUCK IS MOCKING YOU

You should punch him in the mouth =(

    ReplyDelete
  34. Edwin looks mean ... I suspect him being the mastermaind behind your failing health and sanity. Hire a hitman, kill the beast!!!!

    lol

    ReplyDelete
  35. bagagaga xD And damn Edwin, stop mocking the angry lurker!

    ReplyDelete
  36. apology...come on Lurker.... Edwin sez it all

    ReplyDelete
  37. Fran, you know, I previously commented that you should forgive yourself this momentary lapse of sanity but...I now have to BLAME you for my sudden and completely unexpected foray into WW2 miniatures from the Plastic Soldier Company, 15mm Soviets no less!

I should be receiving my first box of infantry next week. Now, I have to order paints, tanks, heavy weapons...a bloody RULE BOOK (or three) and probably build a SECOND army (Germans, of course) to fight against. Which will ONLY LEAD TO my building a third army (of British for a bit of scrum in North Africa)...

So, because of your pains, I am going to spend several hundred US dollars on a completely new period of miniatures....

Admit it, this was your cunning plan all along, to subtly persuade your readers to join in on the WW2 action....sigh.

  38. Apply lighter fluid to ducks tail, apply lighter to ducks tail.. yeehaa, scorch the bugger!

As for the confusion of scales, well, build em, paint em and put em in your display cabinet, next to the scorched duck!

  39. Obviously the medication was too strong. Hope you are at least feeling better.

  40. Here's hoping that you are feeling a lot better today, my friend! But hey, you got a lunch date out of it. You are by leaps and bounds one of the more prolific bloggers that I follow in addition to being one of the most interesting, so based on that, I don't think you ever owe anyone an apology for missing a post. If anything your loyal readers just want you to start feeling better. I'm really glad I didn't miss out on your Operation Sea Lion campaign as well. I have been dropping off the radar a lot myself lately as you can tell...
