Angry Lurker Honest Movie Review 94: A Good Day To Die Hard 2013 (3 STARS).

"It wasn't that good a day, luckily Willis was in it!"

Iconoclastic, take-no-prisoners cop John McClane, for the first time, finds himself on foreign soil after travelling to Moscow to help his wayward son Jack - unaware that Jack is really a highly-trained CIA operative out to stop a nuclear weapons heist. With the Russian underworld in pursuit, and battling a countdown to war, the two McClanes discover that their opposing methods make them unstoppable heroes.

This movie had me worried and not just by some reviews but also that the certificate was 12A (anyone under twelve could see this as long as an adult was with them) and this affected the action, language and claret...a lot!

John McClane's son is in trouble in Russia and is up for some serious sentencing, so John whisks over there quite sharpish and within minutes we are up to our necks in explosions, mobsters, car chases, helicopter gunships, backstabbing, uranium, CIA and bullshit!

Now some of the action scenes are quite good, some good father/son one liners and quips but everything is toned down because of the certificate, the script is a little over the fecking top, Willis looks too old for this shit now, some shenanigans and hardly a mark on him, me and I would be in traction for 2 months. The last movie pushed the believability stakes a little but this one kicks them in the crackers.

Entertaining but a popcorn movie without the butter, 3 STARS but by the skin of it's Russian teeth!

Another Reject highlight tomorrow!

  3. They made him more superhero than cop, can't touch the first 3.

  4. Yep, probably one movie too many in this series... a shame though.

  5. Bruce Willis is the man. Die Hard is cool.

  6. Yeah,if you're going to do a Die Hard movie, you have to go for it as far as the rating. I skipped it due to the poor reviews, but I'll catch it on NetFlix because, well, it's Bruce Willis!

  7. Dangit! That's what I was afraid of! By lowering the rating to allow more kiddos in, they would takeaway from the quality of the movie, but, it still has Bruce and that's really all that matters.

  8. I've heard this was a disappointment. I know Bruce is getting on a bit, but to me he'll always be a handsome man and if he's in a movie, I'll watch it.

    1. He's not Wolverine, but he's not too shabby, either.

  9. Bruce Willis was always a favorite but McClane isn't superman, stupid that they made him like that.

  10. 12A? On a Die Hard film? DAFUQ? Although I'm not really likely to see it anyway. Willis looks too old for this stuff and I imagine this may just be a reboot of the Die Hard franchise with his son now being the one who has to Die Harder. If they wanted to reboot it they should have done it a while ago.

  17. Willis is starting to show his age, like Arnold. :(

Well, there'll always be the Expendables 3.

Saying you have a gift for understatement-would be an understatement.

  21. In response to your comment on my blog, I hope you hit Ray with a snowball. And then I hope he hits you back because that's just fun.

  22. I had high hopes for this, shame really.

  23. Willis looks too old for this shit now.

Yeah, I was wondering about that aspect of things. I'll still probably watch it, but now I know not to expect more than a (barely) three-star experience.

  24. I loved the originals, but there comes a point at which another sequel is just one too many... thanks for the review.

  25. I think I could just live without this one at all. Maybe I should re-watch the first few over instead. That sounds good to me!

  26. Another bleedin' sequel, I guess you kind of expect it to be a bit shit, but are nonetheless disappointed when it is. Old Bruce is getting on - what's next 'Die Hard VI - With a Zimmer Frame'? Still, it is Brucie so perhaps just switch the brain off, gobble some popcorn and enjoy the mindless violence!

Great review Fran or is it Pope Fran now?

Sorry yer Eminence - no disrespect intended!

  27. Sounds like Bruce Willis carried this movie. Then again, isn't that the story with just about any movie he's done lately? Pass the popcorn, Fran. I'll still watch it.

  28. This is the kind of film you don't tone down and now it seems that choice is biting them in the ass. Too bad as I loved the first two(the 3rd was ok). If I'm bored and it's on I'll watch it on the box.
