    1. I can think think of wars in which the losers won the last battle:
      Napoleonic (Davout clobbered the Prussians at the gates of Paris AFTER Waterloo); War of 1812 (What was left of Pakenham's army after New Orleans travelled east along the coast and captured a fort after a bit of a fight); American Civil War (Palmito Ranch, a month after Appomattox. Of course, the fact that both sides could be counted in a handful of hundreds made no difference to the overall result!).
