The title drew me in as I suffer from passenger anger.
William Fichtner is quality whenever on the screen.
Amber Heard is in this, it may help.
A vengeful father escapes from hell ( yes you heard right and in a car aswell) and chases after the men who killed his daughter and kidnapped his granddaughter.
Nicolas has not done much good work lately and this doesn't help his cause (does he have problems with the IRS? but there was Kick Ass), he breaks out of hell in a car to save his granddaughter from been sacrificed by a lunatic serial killer and his cult of redneck Satanists who want to turn earth into another hell, Cage is pursued by The Accountant who is the Devils right hand man(Fichtner) who is trying to stop Cage but has other motives aswell, a waitress (Heard) accompanies Cage and has more balls and testosterone than nearly the whole cast, the action is over the top and tongue in cheek, it copies the Shoot em Up sex scene, slow motion bullets, there's no real angry driving (although the words are on a licence plate), very nice cars , american heavy metal but Fichtner steals the show with the best lines and cooler than ice, the man could have the lead in this and deserves as much.
The movie scrapes 3 STARS but only for Fichtner and that it was intentionally tongue in cheek and please no sequels with Cage. Amen.
I am thinking Cage can no loger carry a movie on his own and that is why he was so good in "Kick Ass" - because he was supporting, and he got killed. I had no desire at all to see this movie, much to my husband's disappointment (and that is only because he wanted to watch the blonde on screen for the duration). After reading your thoughts, I am positive this is a pass.
ReplyDeleteOh dear...Oh deary dear.
ReplyDeleteAs said above when he has the starring role in a movie it really sucks.
I've seen to many bad Nic Cage movies now to know to stay away from them.
Poor Nick Cage.. working for Disney can take away one's edge.
ReplyDeleteExcept for Gone in 60 Seconds I can't think of a single movie with Nicola Cage I would watch a second time - that's my basic criteria for a "good" movie btw - no wait, there was the one where he was a bodyguard to the wife (Shirley Maclaine)of a dead president; was also entertaining.
ReplyDeleteRegards
Cage does so odd things here, but I'm largely indifferent to him. I'd say the other stuff in the film was probably a 3.5 for me--though the conception got me more than execution.
ReplyDeleteNot seen it, Cage has made some stinkers of late, might be worth watching if there's sod all else on! You'll have to loan it to me though Fran!!
ReplyDeleteThere's a couple of early Cage films that are good - Wild at Heart and Raising Arizona. Then he hit a good patch with Leaving Las Vegas, The Rock and Face/Off. After that his films smell rather bad!
ReplyDeleteYou've got to admit the poster looks good and who can forget the classics that are 'The Rock' and 'Con Air'?
ReplyDeleteI miss the old Cage from the Leaving Las Vegag days, sucks to have the IRS tagging at your snatch every day so making whatever shite you can to pay them off will suffice. I suppose once could suspend reality for a while and check out the cars, tits and cool satanic references.
ReplyDeleteSo wait? The chick in the car isn't his kid? Because it looks kind of creepy.
ReplyDeleteAmber Heard will be the star of NBC's new show PLAYBOY CLUB and she is also rumored as possible new RED SONJA :)
ReplyDeleteLOL -- "passenger anger"? You mean when you are a passenger? Or when you have a passenger? Or both? :)
ReplyDeleteI'm betting both!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDelete@ Bard: I don't drive so I have a little passenger rage problem.
ReplyDeleteoh Nicolas Cage... Will you ever be in a great movie again...
ReplyDeleteI think Black Smokes opinion about sums up Cage although he did a decent one recently as the drugged up detective solving a murder case which was weird movie, but seemed to gell about half way through.
ReplyDeleteAs for this flick I'll catch it on the box.
Christopher
Bill Fichtner is an amazing actor. Unfortunately, he's one of most underrated actors in Hollywood. Cage is awful, just awful. Cage used to do good work until he went ego-crazy. Now all he does is crap. But since Fichtner is in this film, I'll give it a chance.
ReplyDeleteI might watch this when it hits dvd.
ReplyDeleteHoly christ! I would watch this just for Amber Heard.
ReplyDeleteit looked like a movie of cage parodying himself. I might give it a watch for just that reason.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, man, if anyone ever needed to learn how to say no to a script once in a while it's Nicholas Cage. He did so well Raising Arizona though, it will take me a bit longer to really groan when I see him headlining something.
ReplyDeletePoor Nicolas Cage, he's beyond a joke at this point. That William Fichtner dude is awesome though. Dude is one of the better characters of the last 20 years.
ReplyDeleteI heard this movie was on a par with gone in 60 seconds. It just took longer.
ReplyDeleteFichtner always freaks me out. Especially since getting blasted in The Dark Knight.
ReplyDeleteI think I will steer clear of this movie. (GET IT? DRIVE, STEER?)
I wouldn't have expected much just by reading that title anyways.
ReplyDeleteFichtner was great in Invasion, but couldn't carry it. Drive Angry sounds like the perfect kind of movie to wait for it to come on HBO. Every two hours. For seven months.
ReplyDeleteCage, get back on the track man
ReplyDelete3/5? with cage, that's unfortunately not surprising. :|
ReplyDeletelol what a crappy movie title.
ReplyDeleteGone is the Cage of Raising Arizona, 8MM, and Vampire's Kiss. such a pity. I am just glad old rumors of him playing Superman were false. With movies like Ghost Rider who needs epicac?
ReplyDeleteI can be more detached as a passenger when the driver gets involved in things.
ReplyDeletethe movie is nothing special, but she is very gorgeous
ReplyDeleteThe chick looks good but the movie is really a must see for any Fichtner fan!
ReplyDeleteI bought this movie in 3D , and it was f'ing excellent ! Didn't expect much from it , and I liked it for what it was.
ReplyDeleteThe reason Cage makes bad movies so much is, he is a notorious spend thrift, he bought a castle to turn in to a hotel for 6 million and it had dry rot and various schenanigans, to cut a long ramble short, he is skint.
ReplyDeleteNever knew that, nice one....
