An early birthday present from a good mate (no not Ray!) dropped in my lap the other day, my birthday is actually on the 23rd of this month (address can be supplied for any other early birthday presents:D), I knew little of the game other than it seems to be based on the Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game which I have played and actually like but my mate has nearly everything so this is my fix.........
In the basic starter box set you receive 3 ships, Federation, Klingon and Romulan as pictured below which to me should be the highlight of the box but they're not, they feel a little plasticy (which is what they are made of obviously and not as well painted in my opinion as the X-Wing models) but they are Star Trek models and will be fine for the game (I'm probably being too fussy).........
There are far more races to choose from according to the book including (not all at once and probably in phases like X-Wing), Cardassian, Borg, Ferengi etc...you can customize your ships with upgrades and famous names from Star Trek, the Federation and the Klingons are my favourites and with my birthday coming up I will add a ship or two and give the game a go but the Warbird has really annoyed me.........and I think the scale will be an issue for some too!
Pictures could have been better but Picassa has lost it's edit button!
Some pictures of the starter pack ships.......
The Warbird but the fly in the ointment........
.....is this fecking mold line, my friend has contacted Wayland Games and they have requested a picture (could be a one off hopefully)......
I have included an X-Wing to give an idea of the comparison between the games and size and scale.........
Some of the items included, you get 5 attack and 5 defence dice which is 2 more than X-Wing.......
Some character cards, familiar faces for all the races...........
The ship cards are very similar but with higher attack stats........
Cloaking is included and quite interesting rule and an essential one too, also you have shields that can be after being disabled can then be turned back on in the next turn but not if they were damaged and then will remain so for the rest of the game......
Other small differences are that the range for movement is up to 6 and that you can back up your ship in the rules (go backwards basically).........
What you get in the box........
.....and then there's this..........
First impressions are sort of fair but I'm looking forward to sorting a game out and seeing what happens, will it outdo X-Wing?.........shields up!
