15mm Battle Valor Medieval or Fantasy Civilians......

..............and some Battlestar Galactica Starship Battles!

Some 15mm civilians from Battle Valor, nice sculpts, perfect for fantasy and many other periods I believe.......

There were 15 in the pack but one angered me!

Attempted some size comparison shots, Khurasan, Battle Valor, CP Models, Battle Valor and Croms Anvil......

Met up with Daniel this week and while he was in Dublin with his girlfriend attending a concert he dropped in to Forbidden Planet and picked up Battlestar Galactica: Starship Battles starter box plus two extras fighters.
Slightly similar to X-Wing but more emphasis on movement, speed, kinetic energy and altitude, there is just 2D6 for shooting and damage is pulled from a stack of tokens with random damage score, another separate stack for collisions, more complicated than X-Wing, no shields, no saving throws, there are cards giving extra maneuver skills, firepower etc......

Took us a little while to get set up and ready but combat is brutal, game was over in 20mins, I destroyed one of my own craft by steering in to an asteroid, lost another to combat while still destroying his two vipers (some of the skill cards are evil).

Very pretty.......

These regulate all movement for you craft......a bit fiddly!

You can have named pilots like Starbuck but no unique cards giving them anything special other than a plus to the shooting dice.

Okay but I prefer X-Wing gameplay!

  1. Lovely posting, Fran, with some corking paint-jobs and BSG too. I've had the starter set for a while but have been waiting for Starbuck's Viper to be released before sitting down to play it in earnest. Its disappointing the pilots have no unique cards :-(

  2. Steering your ship into an asteroid is bad? Who knew haha Some of those citizens look ready to burn people at the stake.

  3. Thanks for bringing these to my attention, they look perfect for Rangers of Shadow Deep.
Curious to see what you're going to use them for.

The Battlestar Galactica gameplay seems to get some very mixed reviews, but the miniatures look ace.
I think I'm going to let this one slide 😁.

    1. The vipers are beautiful but I think the game is limited to very few types of craft!

    2. The civilians are literally scenery, for getting in the way and possibly scenarios?

  4. What a nice gang, two grannies and Death Herself in the same wild bunch :)

  5. Nice! Always liked the Battlestar fighters. No saving throws? You're in trouble...

  7. Great job on the civvies. I was wondering how much BSG gameplay differed to X Wing shame really.

  8. Hail Franonia! Ah...ha..my General. What look like indiscriminate indigenous persons claiming a portion of their planet as their own; are actually, behind their brilliant facades, Franonian super spies, loyal only to the Generalissimo!

  9. The peasants look restless and I love the look of the Battlestar game - very tempting!

  10. Those models are lovely, why not make your own cards etc so you can use them in X-Wing?

  12. You can always find a use for civilians (as it were), and they're a nice looking bunch! I'd not heard anything about the BSG game, looks interesting.

  15. Great looking civies and other types - well done. The BSG game looks cool, but I'm not sure there is enough 'content' to sustain it in the marketplace (you can only go so far with a few variants of Vipers and Raiders). Great to get a game in though!

  17. Moving scenery is usually useful (Medieval civies). Not heard of Battlestar game but was never really a fan of the TV series either so happy to pass on it.

  18. Well doenn getting so much detail on the 25mms, all nice figure (except I don;t particularly like "death").
The problem I have with space games is that they're fought, generally in 2D!

    1. 15mm Joe but I guess it was a typo, I agree about the 2D!
