Anyway while commenting on the excellent blog Paul's Bods http://paulsbods.blogspot.com/ I mentioned that myself and Ray from Don't throw a 1 http://onelover-ray.blogspot.com/ were having difficulty finding some and Paul says I have spare you can have them, he had mentioned about some robots I had and how he would convert them amd lo and behold he sends me Daleks from Germany (his sister had sent them to him from the UK) and I sent him 28mm robots and the blogging world is a smaller place. (still haven't given Ray his share until he coughs up some postage LOL)
Paul's Daleks now in my possesion.
The first blog I ever followed is Vampifan's World of the Undead http://vampifansworldoftheundead.blogspot.com/ and recently he published that he had an article in the magazine Dadi &Piombo about 28mm zombie wargaming and the post can be seen here http://vampifansworldoftheundead.blogspot.com/2011/02/vampifans-views-07.html and is richly deserved, anyway he got some spare copies and if you asked for one he would post it to you free of charge, I believe I responded too late but no he had a spare one (which he was going to keep for himself as a spare as he had already given away the the 5 free ones he wanted to but no and an email later it should be in the post today or tomorrow, so I get a magazine that I read and like at no expense, the blogging world at it's best.(I owe you one Vampifan)
The magazine in question.
A couple of other mentions are about Lee from http://bigleesminipaintingblog.blogspot.com/ who we now meet at shows and he comes to wargames and is part of the Reject's now and obviously the virtual unlimited lifetime supply of apple gumdrops and other items I have won from The Happy Whisk and her quiz's at http://thehappywhisk.blogspot.com/
Good post mate. Yep the benefits of Blogging can be hard to define in the early days of a site. It’s more about showing off your work or talking about games. But as a Blog site develops it takes on a life of its own and some of the more intangible benefits start to become apparent (as well as the tangible stuff like freebies from other Blogger’s!).
ReplyDeleteUs gamers are a relatively small community online (look at any gaming Blog and you find we are all following the same sites) and the 'friendships' we forge in cyber-land are often more real than we realize. I've made dozens of new friends through my Blog and gone on to meet them for real at conventions and shows. My ‘membership’ of the rejects is probably the biggest and best example of how writing a Blog has enhanced my hobby.
For me the experience of Blogging my hobby has been an overwhelmingly positive one and something I heartily recommend to other gamers. The benefits aren’t always clear but trust me, they are out there!
Completely agree with biglee
ReplyDeleteYou do a huge amount to make the world so cosy and friendly too. This blog is a meeting place for folks from all over the blogosphere and the circle is growing. Without you we'd all be the poorer. Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteGood post. The networking aspect of all of this is indeed a plus.
ReplyDeleteThose day-glo Daleks remind me of plastic corn on the cob holders we had as a kid.
Grats on the Daleks! Can't wait to see them in action!
ReplyDelete:-D I recognise those Daleks :-D
ReplyDeleteI hope they all got there with suckers and guns still attached.
The Robots haven´t arrived but I did say the post here is pretty crappy. They will come...maybe they´ve taken the intergaltic route.
Poor Ray...give him a couple of Daleks and maybe he can have a go at a Chocolate layer cake One.
Cheers
Paul
Nice one, another good post Fran, and I totally agree with what you and everyone else has said, espeacially Paul...now gimme my Daleks!!!
ReplyDeletePlastic corn cob holders. I didn't think of that. But they kind of do, just a little fatter.
ReplyDeleteWhere are the TARDIS!!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like there is a strong wargamers community online.
ReplyDeleteYip agree totally Angry L,
ReplyDeleteI had a mountain of 28mm Napoleonic (elite miniatures mostly) lead that had sat in the loft for 20 years and it became clear I wasn't going to do it (as I only have space for 15mm Naps). With the daunting thought of selling them on ebay, I had a little try and the 1st lot sold very, very cheaply (28mm plastic seems to have taken their place in the market). In desperation I posted on my blog for a possible swap to see if anyone was going the other direction (15mm to 28mm) and wanted to shift their AB or Battle honours collections. 2 weeks past then I received an email from a fellow gamer. I swapped the whole lot for AB figures almost 1 for 1. We were both happy as the guy kept sending more he found after we had completed the swap and told me no need to send any more as I had sent him more than enough. I see on his blog he has started painting the figures I sent him and is really enjoying painting them too.
Very positive experience.
Cheers
Paul
After reading Trey's post, I REALLY want Dalek corn on the cob holders!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome. I often think that if the world could be as cool as my fellow bloggers we would be alright.
ReplyDelete@ Justsayin' I agree.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I would have more friends irl if there were cooler people out there u__u;
thanks for the recommendations
ReplyDeleteGamers unite! We may be nerds, but our good hearts will win the day.
ReplyDeletei guess i should wiki daleks. cause all i know about em is that they are ugly and probly from dr who.and i could be wrong on both facts.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the mention, TAL. I totally agree with you and BigLee, it's great when we help each out. I liken my followers and fellow bloggers as a community or one big happy family.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, TAL, there will be a delay in sending your free mag out as I'm still waiting to receive your postal address. I've sent you an e-mail, so the sooner you get in touch with me, the sooner you can have your freebie mag.
I always wanted to get into this tabletop stuff, I was just always really afraid of the fat, sweaty dudes who hung out at the store in my local mall
ReplyDeleteSorry Vampifan I thought I sent it when I replied to you today, will send it again tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI dig the Daleks, man! Who are they going to do battle with? You could always convert a bunch of Elizabethan era footsoldiers into Cyber Men I guess. Pretty interesting stuff man, I'll be following from here on out!
ReplyDeleteyou're right!
ReplyDeleteYep I got that issue of DWA with the Daleks, the following week they gave away a pack of Cybermen and Sontarans. Time for battle to commence I think.
ReplyDeletenever get on the wrong side of the security guy :)
ReplyDeletethis stuff looks great! nice post
ReplyDeleteI used to do some of this awhile back
ReplyDeleteBecause of you, yesterday I spent a LOT of time looking up all sorts of info on wargaming. I even watched YouTube videos of it! It's not something I'll ever be able to pick up as I can't spare any more money or time right now, but I can at least enjoy it now vicariously through you.
ReplyDeleteThis kind of generosity among wargamers is one of the reasons I was encourged to get into the hobby.
ReplyDeleteblogging really does build community...and get you back into things you'd enjoyed doing years ago. I actually went fishing in the attic for my old wargaming boxes.
ReplyDeleteSorry to say but this is way over my head :( ... but I think you got the Daleks you were looking for right? Looking forward to your next pics from the battle with your boys!
ReplyDeleteCool post, made my morning. It is the little things...quite literally :)
ReplyDeleteGreat post man. Hopefully my scotch blog will help you with your next alcohol beverage decision. Cheers mate
ReplyDeleteI wish I had a Dalek army :[
ReplyDeleteOoooer daleks! No I must resist!
