20mm Painted WW2 Soviet T-28 medium tanks.

The Soviet T-28 was among the worlds first medium tanks, the prototype was completed in 1931 and went into production in 1932, it was an infantry support tank and designed to destroy fortified positions but would see limited success on the battlefield.

It weighed 28 tonnes, a length of nearly 24 and a half feet, a crew of 6, a 76.2mm main gun and this variant had 4 7.62mm machine guns.

Have been collecting a few 20mm Soviet pieces over the last year as a side line and as the British are currently been painted I just wanted to paint something different (not that different I grant you) but will do something around 1942 in Russia with my early war Germans.

The models are from Shellhole Scenics "Friend or Foe" range and I have added some 20mm German armour to show scale.

20mm German Panzer IV and II for scale.

  2. That insane, I thought the M3 Lee looked goofy, but holy nuts this is truly Russian thinking. Big tank, more guns, what can possibly go wrong?

  3. Very interesting, and well done...as usual!

  4. Excellent.

I need to get a few of those. Truly awful tank design. Amazing that a nation that came up with the T-34 also went with such disasters as this and its slightly bigger cousin.

  12. Those look great. I love those old Russian tanks. I use 15mm versions for Space Ork tanks. They just look so bodged together.

  19. Those small medium tanks look really large. *ba dum bum*

Also, love the weaponry they're sporting. Wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of those, medium sized or not.

  22. I like the German Panzers the best. My brother and I had a great deal of admiration for Rommel as a military leader and when we played our wargames we fought over which one of us could be Rommel and his troops. Although he was the enemy we couldn't help but admire him.

  23. Very fun! I love this tank. Nice to see someone embrace them! So quirky... even more so is the T-35. I have one of these T-28's in 1/56 scale that I got to use for my Quar :)

  30. More good work. Very cool. Hope the day is good by you. Overcast and chilly here. It's game night for Tim, and soon I'll be tucked away, reading. Can't wait.

    Happy New Week.

  31. Great stuff. I am working on a scenario for the Soviet offensive in Finland in July, '44. The Finns will be using quite a few captured Red tanks, mainly T26's, but they'll also have one of these.

  32. Very nicely done!!! Man tanks are always cool.... at any size!!!

  33. I'd take the panzers over those any days. I've heard enough horror stories of soviet machinery.

  38. The Soviets were badass on the battlefield. By far no one in the allies gave as much as them, or lost as much.
