28mm Wild West Poker Tables and Players,.....

.......Aces and Eights or a Dead Man's Hand wins, I wasn't aware that Texas Hold Em wasn't invented/created until the early 1900's but didn't gain wider recognition until 1967 but had been seen in 1959 or that would have been my reference.

Nice set of figures from Dixon Miniatures.

The dead man's hand is credited to James Butler Hickok (Wild Bill) when he was murdered in 1876 by Jack McCall playing poker and this hand (black aces and eights, although there have many other hands stated until this one was finally credited) was retrieved later from the floor.

A quieter game........

  7. This vignette is so cool and well done on painting them Fran. The sleeping cowboy is my favorite pose as well. A game called Faro was the most commonly played game in the American West I think.

I just bought somewhere around 60 Western Figures. I bought a vignette of a bank holdup too. I'm actually going to learn the history and the proper colours to paint them. This could be my historical period.

    2. From Knuckleduster. They're real "old school" sculpts. I think you guys will like them. Got a gallows too.

    3. There's a couple of nice figures in their range, a guy that looks like Robert Duvall and he's holding a hat?, got a gallows myself from Black Flag.

  10. People tend to leave dead man's hands (of the poker variety) on Hickok's grave monument in Deadwood.

  21. I actually didn't know that fact about why it's called a dead mans hand. I hope that's true because it would be pretty cool.

  25. Nice looking bunch. With your ladies it reminds me of the Last Chance Saloon T-shirt. "Liquor in the front, Poker in the rear."

  26. A good poker game is always needed, along with piles of dough.

  27. These are great. I love the guy with the beer raised over his head. However, after a few of those beers, I turn into the guy slumped back, taking a nap with his hat over his face...

  28. Very nice!

Aces and Eights! Hickock was supposedly playing draw pocker, and that does agree with the details of how the story has been told.

Faro, which is like a very strange game of Black Jack, may have been the most popular Saloon game, but like Black Jack, you need a "house" (banker) to run the game. So poker is the better pick up game.
