Framed for crimes against the country, the G.I. Joe team is terminated by the President's order, and the surviving team members face off against Zartan, his accomplices, and the world leaders he has under his influence.
You do sort of need to have seen the first one and technically this is better than the first one but I'm not sure and I'd like to say this was not my first choice of movie when I arrived at the cinema, there's a few missing characters from the first (glossed over), some being played by new people and a returning one killed off quite quickly, the action is quite fast and quick, the acting is not too bad, the Rock (Dwayne Johnson) is perfect in his role, Bruce Willis must have a tax bill to pay and physics and reality gets a real test. Harmless popcorn but maybe wait for DVD.
There are a lot of changes from the comics in these movies and I would have liked to have seen some Red Shadows and a Baron Ironblood in my movies but that's just me, in Britain you would be more familiar with the name Action Force.
I really do like when sports people move over to acting like the Rock, Vinnie Jones and have a little or a lot of success..........
Some of the cast, Jonathan Pryce does look a little bemused but he plays a good role........
i enjoyed it, some big changes in like 20 minutes.. and then the movie starts. boom!
ReplyDeleteinteresting, twist and turns.
Will I live if I wait for NetFlix?
ReplyDeleteAnd be sure to stop by on Monday, Fran!
You will live Alex!
DeleteAnd you might want to stop by and defend yourself...
DeleteI'm not too much in it, but with soldiers and ninjas, my 8 yr old son can't wait to see it.
ReplyDeleteIt'll also pay back his older sisters for all the high school musical and bring it on movies he had to endure while I was deployed! ;)
the film is doing extremely well at the world box office. We shall see fourth installment for sure!
ReplyDeleteI saw the first movie yesterday on TV and was awful. I don't feel at all like paying 9€ per member of my family to watch the sequel.
ReplyDeleteGood review Fran, I will await a DVD release as you said.
ReplyDeleteI never understood what or who was GI Joe, i heard the name in lots of movies and shows from the states, till a few moths back when i found out it was the American name for what we know as Action Man toys, strange that they changed the name for Europe
ReplyDeleteIt is more common here in the states and is in correlation to GI ( general issue) and Joe( for the average "Joe"). American infantry got that nickname in WW2, if I recall correctly.
DeleteIs it not General Infantry
Delete3 stars? That's a bit better than I would have expected, honestly. I may have to check it out on home video.
ReplyDeleteZ Force was my favourite. Sure SAS force might have been the glory boys, but Z Force had tanks. I've still got the first issue of Battle/Action Force with Baron Ironblood on the cover, sad nerd that I am...
ReplyDeleteHaven't been to the movies in forever.
ReplyDeleteI'm used to seeing The Rock in Disney films that I've seen with my daughter. We are all fans of his in our family, and hubby loves Bruce Willis, so we may watch this one, though probably on DVD. Thanks!
ReplyDelete3 stars? I was actually expecting worse from a movie that was apparently so bad it was delayed for a year.
ReplyDeleteSounds like it tops the first one at least, which isn't so hard to do. I'll wait for the dvd though.
ReplyDeleteThanks Fran and I'll take your advice and wait for the DVD.
ReplyDeleteChristopher
My brother and me are great GIJOE fans, both comic and 3"1/4 action figures but were really disappointed by the first movie, we have been a bit apprehensive about going to see this sequel, your review might persuade us to go anyway.
ReplyDeleteWe would have liked to have heard more of the cliché's in the first movie like "Yo Joe" and "Cobraaaaa!" some Crimson Guards and Cobra Ratlers would be cool too. Just for fun mind.
Well anyway thanks for the review Cheers Sander
Sounds like a fair review, but as you say I might just wait for the DVD.
ReplyDeleteAnother tellin-it-like-it-is review, much appreciated Fran. I will save my dosh and wait for the DVD, the Rock notwithstanding. My pension cheque better spent on seeing World War Z methinks.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Doc
I believe you're right Doc!
DeleteDoubt I'll watch this one, but maybe
ReplyDeleteI'll probably watch this on dvd anyhow. I quite enjoyed the previous film I love G.I Joe from when I was a kid so I suppose it depends on what you grew up with. I did have a few Action Force figures but not many where as I had loads of Joes :D and one very mean Hovercraft which was an awesome bit of kit.
ReplyDeleteThe first one is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me, although it got daft as a brush at the end with the massive underwater base.
ReplyDeleteDredd failed miserably at the box office and this utter pants does well; there really is no justice...
ReplyDeleteMakes me cry mate.
DeleteI've heard better things about this movie than the previous one. Still not really interested in seeing it though.
ReplyDeleteHi Francis, nice to meet you. Visiting via Alex's blog.
ReplyDeleteI just came over from Alex's and I'm glad I did. Though I like The Rock and Bruce Willis, I'll take your advice and wait for the DVD.
ReplyDeleteJulie
I'm very happy about Rock's acting success. Yeah I too agree it's a DVD wait and also don't plan to pay a 3D price tag for this movie.
ReplyDeleteI'm popping in via Alex's blog!
ReplyDeleteTruth be told? I haven't been to the movies in... I don't know how many years!
But The Rock is awesome!

Hi there! I'm popping over from Alex's blog. The cast in this new film interests me, but I hated the last movie. I'll catch this one when it comes onto DVD.
ReplyDeleteI really want to want to go see this in the theater (mostly because of Willis), but I didn't like the last one. It was okay as a movie, but it was a horrible GI Joe adaptation.
ReplyDeleteAlex sent me and I'm glad he did. It's great to find GI Joe mentioned here. Just the name brings back memories.
ReplyDeleteHe's a good lad Alex, you're very welcome!
DeleteI really want to shut off my brain and watch this, but I don't think I can justify a theater ticket. I shall eagerly await the DVD!
ReplyDeleteHi. I'm here thanks to Alex. I'm not a gamer or movie goer, but I like your avatar and GI Joe's meaty arms, so I'm here to stay.
ReplyDeleteCheers.
You're very welcome to stay!
DeleteIts got Mr Willis in it, but that can't save it for me, what a load of old tosh!!!!
ReplyDeleteYeah.. wait for DVD... "DVD"...
ReplyDeleteI think we are waiting for the DVD to come out. I wanted to see it in the movies but keeping hearing it wasn't all that great. I really enjoyed the first one though.
ReplyDeleteI was expecting something deep that examined mans inhumanity to man.
ReplyDeleteWhats up! I just wish to give an enormous thumbs up for the great data you could have
ReplyDeleteright here on this post. I will be coming back to your blog for more soon.
