Best or Worst Movie Remake Blogfest.......

........and Tamsin is giving away free stuff!

Anyway Alex is hosting along with others a blogfest asking what are the best and worst movie remakes ever made, I've done 10 of each (you have to set a limit) that I believe are good candidates but everyone will not agree......maybe and there's one or two that may even be controversial!

I give you my lists........and don't forget Tamsin is giving away free stuff (that must be worth 10 extra Tamsin as I mentioned it twice!).

The Best Remakes in no particular order...............

A clever reworking of the original...........

There was nothing wrong with the original Infernal Affairs but this was an epic collaboration of  great performances.......

A remake of Yojimbo by Kurosawa which is in it's own right a masterpiece but this was a relaunch of the western genre and the epic rise of Mr.Eastwood........

Very enjoyable remake of the slightly dated original, great performance from Colin Farrell.........

Good update of the Charles Bronson original with maybe a different ending.........

No question here, far better than the original..........

Not that there's anything wrong with the original L.A Takedown but this is slicker than goose faeces....

Speaking of slicker than Ray's hairdo...........

This is a good reinvention of the slightly dated original.............

Enough said, blots the stain that was Stallone's abomination...........

.....many others out there obviously!

Now the worst remakes...........

James Caan would be horrified, this is shocking.........

Now before we start the ranting I prefer the original, there's nothing really wrong with the new one but the old one had a better story and the slow zombies still get my vote...........

Very foggy fecking remake, the original scared the faeces right out of me...........

The originals ending still annoys the faeces out of me but Stallone should apologise for this....just after he apologises for Judge Dredd

The original is dated but not compared to this................

The original Nikita is leaps ahead of this wooden remake, it also goes under the title The Assassin..........

There is only one Willy Wonka and that's Gene...........

Fecking merde...............

Alec Guinness would be upset, along with Herbert Lom, Peter Sellers etc.........

Shocking descent of a once great actor..............

....and don't forget Tamsin's give away (that's 15 extra Tamsin!)

  2. I agree with Michael Cain when he said "I don't know why they re-make good films. They should take a bad film and re-make it to be better!" It's all subjective of course but I do agree with all the bad re makes you have selected. And you could probably add a dozen more as well at the very very least.

    2. Clint agreed... remade Italian Job? Blechhhhhhh....

    3. The actual quote came about the remake of the Italian Job. But It could have about oh so many films. Just as long as they don't re make Zulu!

    4. It would end up with a different ending!

  3. What do you mean you've come up with these, I bloody suggested most of 'em!!!!
What the hell do you know anyway? Loser!!!

  4. I'm pretty much with you on most of these but the original Casino Royale is kind of special to me.

And the Pink Panther remake, somebody should have been shot for just thinking about doing that. Peter Sellers owns that.

I didn't know you'd won Seb's GZG and I went an put my name down for you 7 times on Tamisin's give away for GZG. The way I spoil you, it's shameful...

  5. I think most people agree that the new Dredd is much better, but I am left wondering about remakes to come. Especially the Evil Dead remake. The same team are working on it, but I don't think Bruce Cambpell is.

  6. The Thomas Crown Affair was almost my first pick.
I didn't care for the original Wicker Man, but Cage running through the forest in a bear suit... enough said.
    Dredd was MUCH better!
I still prefer the original Fright Night but the remake wasn't bad.
    Excellent list, Fran!

  7. You are pretty much spot on with your list, but i did enjoy the fog remake. And you missed out the magnificent seven assault on precinct 13 star trek on the best list

  8. I totally agree with your list of worsts. lol! Some I'd blotted from my menory! hahaha.

  9. I agree with you on all points, but the one that really stands out for me is Steve Martin as the Pink Panther. F-in horrible! I actually like Steve Martin with The Jerk being hilarious, but no way was anybody going to come within a Country Mile of Peter Sellers iconic Pink Panther it's like somebody trying to re-make Arnies Conan...oh wait...some idiot did!!

  10. I agree with both your list Dredd best remake ever done

  11. Good list. I'm particularly with one on the lackluster ones: Burton's Planet of the Apes and the new Wicker Man being particularly egregious.

  12. Yep, can't argue with most of that... I agree with Clint, don't remake good films, re-make the bad ones. You missed Shaft off the list btw, appalling remake. Stallone's Dredd was somewhat true to the comic to be fair, but the new one was one of the best films ever. I refused to even watch Martin's Pink Panther.

  13. I will only disagree with you on a few, namely, Dawn of the Dead, which is one of my favorites, and Total Recall, which is okay, imo, but I really liked the original with Ahnold :)

    1. Those are the two I disagree with as well. The Farrell TR was pretty good and Arnie's is dated but it's not one of the best remakes ever. DotD was definitely not a worst remake either (Red Dawn, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Psycho, Arthur, Bangkok Dangerous, The Longest Yard, Clash of the Titans, Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, The Omen.....).

    2. This is why we're all different....most of the time!

  14. Good lists; I would add Star Trek to the good list as well.
What do you think; should they remake Zardoz?

  15. THE FOG was uber scary and the music in it was amazing too!

  16. Blah to fright night, hate farrell and hate that, but yeah agree with the rest, except I like dawn of the dead, like the old one too.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Some great picks on both sides

    ReplyDelete
  18. There are remakes and reboots. Dredd is a reboot. Conan was a dreadful reboot. No mention of Batman or Superman reboots?

Also, some of the movies you mention should be classified as remixes. Ran would be an excellent example. So is O Brother Where Art Tho

  21. Some inspired choices but one or two I might take exception with - big Cohen Brothers fan you see.

  22. you forgot Red Dawn on the worst list

    1. Very true, I haven't had the heart to watch the new one!

  23. Some good picks, there.... I'm interested how many people have put Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on their worst list. I liked it. I always thought the Gene Wilder version lacked the darkness inherent in the book.

  24. The only one I'd disagree with is Total Recall. No Michael Ironside in the second one!

  25. Excellent list you have here. Some I have not seen yet, but there are many I agree how you classified them. Thanks for participating!

  26. Only one Wonka. Agree. That crap remake is on my list.

Ps. I just bought the original on bluray, a few weeks ago.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Both Wonka movies were garbage in my opinion. I also need to watch more of the movies on these lists...

    ReplyDelete
  28. I have only seen a few of those movies. Le Femme Nikita almost made my list too, only I couldn't remember then name of the remake :)

  29. I enjoyed the world-building in the TOTAL RECALL remake. And of course, there was Beckinsale...

    ReplyDelete
  30. Eek.. I need to see more originals

    ReplyDelete
  31. Disagree on Total Recall, and yet I didn't HATE the remake. Just prefer the original :)

Can't really comment on the others, as I haven't seen most of them, either original or remake. Your post was fun to read. hehe
