The main unit is 28th Massachusetts Regiment, 4th Irish Brigade (had to be Irish!), some casualties (I have a weird fixation with casualty figures, there's even more to come!) and a 9pdr artillery piece, everything is from Perry Miniatures except the limber which is from Dixon Miniatures.
Started reading this for some colour and flavour.........
Looking very good Fran, nice colours and shading.
ReplyDeleteVery nice Francois!!!! will we actually get a game with these before you flog them on ebay?
ReplyDeleteThey look great.
DeleteYeh! Let these guys see the light of the games table before you flog em!
DeleteBite me!
DeleteSo that's a no, right?
DeleteA nice bunch of miniatures and I think this is the only gun crew ever made with no one holding his ears shut!
ReplyDelete:-)
looking good Fran
ReplyDeleteVery nice painting Frank. I'd only make one comment on the varnish; it may be the photos and the light, bu they look to have a gloss finish
ReplyDeleteI'm not a big Fan of historical models but I dig those casulties. Especially the one that is losing his hat.
ReplyDeleteVery nice looking unit Fran, glad your back to the historical minis and 28mm:)
ReplyDeleteVery nice flags to.
which rules are you planing to use?
Best regards Michael
Postie has a FIW set that could be converted!
DeleteNice ! Looking forward to the first AAR then.
DeleteBest regards Michael
Really nice unit, supurb colors. The flags are grand too.
ReplyDeleteI like that you based them individually as well....how many of us still do that!?
Yep these do look the business, looking forward to more in this series.
ReplyDeleteIan
Very nice mate. I was wondering when we'd see these painted up. Next to WWII the ACW is my favourite period (which is why I like our 15mm Fire & Fury games so much). Looking forward to playing a game with these....you know, before you get bored and flog em!
ReplyDeleteGreat looking figures and a surprising side step. You might enjoy the 35th Regiment Indiana Infantry (Ist Irish), complete with their unique emerald green kepi, I finished a few years ago.

Good start! Your thoughts mirror my own for delving into this period: skirmish all the way and Perry plastics ('cause it's so damn pretty cheap) but a few metals for good measure.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your further progress.
Cheers
SG
They are excellent Fran, nice minis and painted well to boot, great stuff
ReplyDeleteThese are good mate.. always have had a soft spot for the historical genres, but no one plays them around here. Bet they will look nice on the field, right up until they face a firing line or 2.. :)
ReplyDeleteThey look superb as usual pal. Real quality work.
ReplyDeleteThe models don't look bad at all, even though you say they're cheap, thus a win win situation!
Very handy work there Fran! I like these a lot!
ReplyDeleteVery nice. I too am going through a period of temptation.
ReplyDeleteLovely work Fran :)
ReplyDeletenice figures and one of my favourite periods. Cracking casualties to.
ReplyDeleteGreet looking minis Fran
ReplyDeleteGood oh! Decent period with nicely done figures. There's hope for you yet!
ReplyDelete;O)
Well, there were casualties! Excellent job on the figures. You need any detailed information on the Civil War, I know just the guy who could help.
ReplyDeleteVery nice! I guess there was a dispraportionate number of wounds on the left side (foot forward for firing) of the body.
ReplyDeleteIf you go west you can have some natives. And if I recall correctly, I think Texas had some lancers as well. The Comanche were very active in Texas, and it is very fortunate for the United States that they had already over expanded and crashed back in population (1840s or so) by the time U.S. expansion met them full on. Pekka Hämäläinen on the Comanche Empire is the most groundbreaking in this area.
A lot more diversity.....
DeleteWhy are the other Rejects so convinced you'll sell them so quick? Get a few games in at least. The time and effort you have invested in them they deserve it. Other than that they look really good and will look even better once you have wone the first game with them.
ReplyDeleteCheap can sometimes be low quality though so don't get too many of them! Casualty figures help bring a semblance of realism, so I can understand the fascination with them.
ReplyDeleteVery nice figures, and I particularly like that almost-black of the blue coats and kepis. I achieved something like that on a couple of my arty figures once, liked the look, and was never able to replicate it.
ReplyDeleteIf you're looking at ACW in the West - lets say, Trans-Mississippi - you might consider reading J.T. Edson's 'Dusty Fog' Civil War stories. He's a bit pro-South (Mr D. Fog is a Texican o'course), and the writing and story-telling style a tad ... odd, but they do have their points of interest. I think I still have 'You're in command now, Mr. Fog' kicking around here somewhere...
Geez they're nice. Loads of character.
ReplyDeleteVery good looking unit Fran. I like having casualty figures as well.
ReplyDeleteReally nice. Perry plastic figures are too complicated to assemble for my fingers. Your works look great.
ReplyDeleteSame here mate!
DeleteNice looking figures.
ReplyDeleteNice work Fran. But, where are the rebels?!? The South will rise again!
ReplyDeleteStarting them soon.
DeleteVery nicely done!
ReplyDeletelove the background used for a setting.
ReplyDeleteI like the backgrounds too. But someday, I'd like to see Ray's giant melon in the background. Maybe making a scary face.
DeleteReally nice. Great work for a period and scale you are just dabbling in.
ReplyDeleteVery well done, and a fun peek at a promising modeling journey. The red-hot shirted arty guy is cool.
ReplyDeleteWonderful job on these minis Fran!
ReplyDeleteLooking good Fran, a tremendous start to a new period and worth a few points too!
ReplyDeleteThey look great, your large toe did a nice job haha
ReplyDeleteThey look great Fran
ReplyDeleteVery nice. I didn't even know there was such a thing as ACW skirmish gaming.
ReplyDeleteI like them all but I think that my preferred ones are the casualties !
ReplyDeleteVery good poses: dynamic and realistic .
Fantastic Fran, they are just fantastic!
ReplyDeletePhil.
Excellent start! Last time I played ACW was with Airfix figures.
ReplyDeletePlastic or not, those are very well painted! And I love American history and the civil war era.
ReplyDeleteThese are excellent painted Fran! Ans so many different poses! That's what I really like!
ReplyDeleteGreetings
Peter

Good looking lot, these fellow! And a great unit to boot. I think you've picked well for your next project. I need to find a reason to paint and play some ACW myself.
ReplyDeleteThey look good, Fran. Mounted on 2p for skirmish battles?
ReplyDeleteFecking looking good, Fran.
ReplyDeleteNice work Fran... hey I just noticed that with the addition of these figs the number of posts labelled 28mm is 111 the emergency number for New Zealand... perhaps its a sign that you should be careful around ray as someone is going to get hurt (there's an excuse kick him)
ReplyDeletejust joking great work
Nice work Fran, I must admit another period I like the look of.
ReplyDeleteYeah, need some Rebs to fight those dirty Yanks. Another great book for the Western Theatre is "Shrouds of Glory" about Hood and the Franklin/Nashville campaign.
ReplyDelete-J
Really excellent paint job on those !
ReplyDeleteNice Yankees Fran and its good to see the Fighting Irish
ReplyDeleteGreat work, Fran, I'm quite a fan of Perry plastics...
ReplyDeleteA very good looking group. Have fun with them.
ReplyDeleteThose look great! You can't go wrong with Perry figs. Try "Brother Against Brother" rules.
ReplyDeleteBloody good start to a fascinating period.Nice to see you've started with the right side...three cheers for the Union.
ReplyDeleteExcellent Work!
ReplyDeletebeau travail
ReplyDeleteVery interesting project, Fran, and an excellent work!!!
ReplyDeleteThese came out really good, Fran. Great job!
ReplyDeleteLooks great Fran! I think ACW is going to be very popular this year.
ReplyDeleteChristopher
As I've said before, Francis, you do excellent miniature work. So much detail is put into each figurine. I like how the words are kinda curvy with the wave on the flags that the soldiers are carrying. You really captured the essence of the fallen soldiers, too.
ReplyDeleteVery nice. Interestingly I had dinner with an American Civil War figure sculpter, just the other night!
ReplyDeleteGreat work mate!
