Angry Lurker Honest Movie Review 86: Lawless 2012 (3 STARS).

A movie based on a true story about a trio of brothers who sold moonshine in Franklin County, Virginia and their battle against the corrupt authorities during the prohibition period of the United States.

Watched this as part of a double bill of movies I saw on the same day, I sometimes do this when I have a spare day and there's two movies worth seeing! Around the late 20's the Bondurant brothers run moonshine quite successfully during the prohibition period and things are running fine until a corrupt politician wants a share and sends a psychotic special deputy (Guy Pearce playing psycho very well), what follows is a steady rise in intimidation and violence from both sides that heads for a dramatic conclusion and showdown.

Tom Hardy is excellent as Forrest Bondurant, Shia LaBeouf is the young brother with dreams to rival Capone, Gary Oldman has a few brief appearances as a big time villain, in fact all the performances are good, the pace of the movie is quite slow at times and then you're hit with a moment of violence and the pace slows again, not as good as I thought it would be but well worth a watch!

Taking some annual leave and may not be around as much for a week or so!

15mm Sci-Fi Khurasan "Garn" or now known as.....

.....the "Feku", well I've been reading John Scalzi's "Old Man's War" and his names and descriptions of alien races and their names inspired me. Good book by the way, well these guys are meat eaters and mercenaries and the bane of star systems and colonies throughout the galaxy...and blue!

I've still no idea why I decided on blue.........but I think it works?

The war leader showing his dominant red colour as top dog alien.

Damn good book........

Skirmish 2012 (September), I'm older and Ray bought Space Marines!!

Got up today older at 44 years of age which as you know is 16 in man years (4 + 4 = 8 multiplied by number of testicles = 16).......
Happier times.......

Myself, Postie and Ray (met Lee there) headed of to the Skirmish Wargames Show at Sidcup (I had birthday money burning a hole in pocket but saved some for SELWG next month!), picked up a few pieces from Ainsty (28mm sci-fi which will pose as 15mm scenery), a painted kit of a civil airliner and helicopter at the Bring and Buy and some pieces of Games Workshop scenery going cheap, some 15/20mm white UN vehicles and talked to some fellow bloggers (a few regulars were missing up until we left around 1300hrs, I then had to buy lunch for the gits on my birthday (queued to get into a McDonald's.......in the fecking rain!!!!!), got home and got ready for work. Skirmish is a good little show, highly recommended.

Took very little pictures for some reason and not that good as I went through them but I was tired because I'm old........

Clint otherwise known as the cat herder overseeing his 7TV Crooked Dice participation game, we were meant to play but time got away from us again.....

Really nice 40K game.......

54mm Viva Mexico 1916 game using 54mm figures I believe.......

54mm San Juan Hill game.......

More from that 40K game......

Ray with his space marines (all 51 of them) and Leofwine Wargamerson otherwise known as Alan and a rabid supporter of Arsenal and motorised wheelchair battery removal, has issues with Tottenham Hotspur seemingly as well......Postie in the background.

Ray is buying stock for his painting venture, the blog giveaway will hopefully happen next week as the stuff has arrived and will be a joint giveaway with Ray when he reaches 300,000 hits.

Angry Lurker Honest Movie Review 85: Dredd 3D 2012 (5 STARS)

"Grim, bleak, depressing......brilliant!"- The Angry Lurker Honest Movie Review.

It's a 4 STAR movie but get's the extra star because I've been a fan of the comic legend for a lot of decades and it erases the disaster that was the 1995 movie!

The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One - a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called "Judges" who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge - a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of "Slo-Mo" experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed. During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson, a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture - a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma and her ruthless clan...

This is basically his expression all movie and the helmet remains on once put on....brilliant!

As I said I have been a fan of Judge Dredd for a long time, possibly the early 80's and I still have original 2000AD (such great stories and characters) comics back in Ireland, I had to see it in 3D because that's all there was and I was a little annoyed as I'm not a big fan of 3D but after a few minutes I didn't notice the glasses again, Karl Urban (Doom, Star Trek, LOTR, RED etc...) as Dredd is such a great actor and perfect for the dour dispenser of Mega City justice, the story is simple, the action is great and the role of Anderson is played well by Olivia Thirlby, the villain Ma-Ma is played by Lena Headey (Game of Thrones, 300 etc...) and is quite the bitch, the effects are well done, sometimes too well done (the human body trauma scenes are sometimes slow motion and eye watering), came out of the cinema with a grin on my face and that doesn't happen often!

My friend Vinnie was so happy I think he had a moment!!!!!!

Inspiring Picture 40: Upset Dog, 400,000 hits, 500 posts, FUBAR rules and Water!

I've been working a lot of shifts lately and it's starting to affect my usual good nature....

Lurker: Stop flicking water at me Ray!
Ray: It's not me......
Lurker: Of course it's you.......
Ray: How do you know it's me?
Lurker: I've looked at the fecking ceiling for a leak and it's dry......and there's only two of us in the fecking room!
Ray: So!
Lurker: Give me strength!

So he goes off to the work kitchen to wash up his dinner items, goes to the bathroom and comes back into the control room but fails to remember the sink filling up....anyone for naval wargaming?

The picture cracks me up because I have dogs that look at me like this sometimes and for other reasons, thank you for the hits and for reading this sorry blog of mine, I have found one page sci-fi and modern rules called FUBAR thanks to a fellow blogger..one page!...I know it sounds horrific to purists like Ray but they look good to me for a skirmish period! Did I mention one page possibly two!

We're nearly there myself and Ray with our small giveaway soon........stay tuned!

Angry Lurker Honest Movie Review 84: Total Recall 2012 (3 STARS).

"Not a bad movie but an unnecessary remake?"-Angry Lurker Honest Movie Review!

For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid, even though he's got a beautiful wife who he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life - real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man as he finds himself on the run from the police.

This movie follows the plot of the original but none of it's locations, Earth has literally died due to chemical warfare and only two locations exist, the UFB (United Federation of Britain) and the colony (Australia) and are linked by a subterranean passage.

All the characters are still there except that Sharon Stones and Michaels Ironsides characters from the original are melded into one in as Kate Beckinsale (she's a little over the top but still very good though), the action is very good, the CGI is quite amazing as you believe the remaining parts of the world are overcrowded and that technology has advanced, the synthetic police units are incredible (part of the plot line), you still have finding the resistance leader element , Colin Farrell is very good in the lead role but why not use all this for a different type of sci-fi movie because you know certain things are going to happen well before they do and they take away from the experience a little...

Now I've seen the original lately and it's quite dated but when it came out it was a good movie for it's time but this is a different beast with today's movie technology, it's a mixture of Minority Report, I,Robot, Blade Runner and even the new Star Wars movies and obviously the original (there's even a 3 breasts scene!) but worth the watch...

Things that may make a Wargamer whine part 4.......

....or maybe they should just man or woman up, I've changed it from crying as normal!

So anyway on to the whining/whinging, I am on my last shift of 6 x 12 hour days and I have had nothing to paint of my own, the lead box was dry for one of the first times ever, I had placed an order with a company on the 15th of last month to cover this eventually but I contacted them last Thursday and they said it had just been despatched but I truly had nothing to paint, I offered a friend (no not Ray as he's on holiday, it's been lovely!) and he cycled down to the site with 2 x 28mm WW2 undercoated tanks (that I had bought the bollox for his birthday last February, I should have just painted them then!) and I painted them (that was an hour killed), I then repainted 2 28mm sentinels form Games Workshop that I had stuck on a shelf and had been looking at them with malice for many years (and will be used for the sci-fi shenanigans) and then there was nothing....left!

I've lost a fortune on Facebook poker, made other members of staff cry, upset some landscapers, looked at some nude things, contemplated and dismissed 74 new periods, went on eBay a lot, more nude shenanigans, upset some delivery drivers, had an argument about the movie "Shoot em Up" again with a co-worker, read some rules, threw a lot of cans back over a wall, upset the Royal Mail etc.......

Even actually working didn't kill enough time, I have ordered something small from some other sources for next Wednesday when I'm back at work but what if they don't turn up....... and no I'm not painting your figures either!!!!!

I know some of you are thinking big deal but it's not funny to have nothing to paint and occupy a tiny mind!

Has this ever happened to you lot?

This is the Lurkers imaginary metal mountain box picture.....

28mm WW2 Churchill and Cromwell tanks, he'll do the decals himself......

A reject (John) has recently been to Australia and sent me some holiday snaps and this one really amused me.........
....but you say why Australia Lurker?

Well I've won another competition (been doing quite well lately, need to speak to Tamsin about something!) and the lovely Alan over at Dux Homunculorum has sent me this lovely 28mm Harald Hardrada figure (he's lovely)

Figure and postcard and he came in an impressively packed box with impressive postage (Alan probably was going "How fecking much"? in the post office) packaging and labels....

Proof if it was even required, Ray has said he's having the figure but I say over his dead fecking body.....

I'm bored and off to the GZG site to spend some eBay money....
